Philip J Kirkham
Born in Lancashire a great many years ago, Phil and his wife Anne, moved to the Isle of Bute in 2005. They moved into Crofton Cottage and have lived there ever since.
Phil has enjoyed the outdoors, and nature, all his life. He took up digital wildlife photography in 1991, and enjoyed capturing images of wildlife, mainly in Lancashire, for the first few years. Advised and assisted by his friend and wildlife photographer Philip Tomkinson, the hobby soon turned into a passion.
Phil has made several photography trips abroad, including S.Africa, USA, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. His work has been published in several local and national papers, magazines and books. He has produced his own calendars featuring images of Bute for the last 14 years, selling around 500 each year. His images of Bute have also been sold on items at Picture Bute, on place mats, coasters, mugs, tea shirts and more. In excess of 30,000 of these have also been sold during the past 14 years.

As long as I can remember I have taken photographs, but not until 2016 when my late husband bought me my first DLSR and an online photography course as a gift did I manage to come off “Auto”.
Since then I have discovered a whole new challenge. I do take landscapes and try different types of photography, such as light painting, using a lens ball, working with props.
However, for me it is the thrill of photographing wildlife that I really enjoy. For me wildlife photography, in particular birds, is both exciting and therapeutic at the same time.
